TTBA Weekly News and Mailbox Monday

This feature was inspired by It's Monday! What are you reading? hosted by Sheila at Book Journey and also by The Sunday Salon.

I'm forgoing my normal weekly news post to share with you some news about some life changes I'm going through right now.  I don't normally get too personal on my blog, but I feel I need to share this because it may affect my presence in the coming weeks (months).  My husband and I are separating and myself and my sons are moving in with my mom because we're losing our apartment.  That means that I'm working on packing up my 3000+ books, plus all my other stuff.  We're moving this weekend and then I'll be going through the long process of unpacking and reshelving all my books once again.  All this during the holidays is particularly overwhelming.  It's a sad state of things, but it really has been a long time coming unfortunately.  I'm going to have to do some shifting of things.  I'm trying to stay positive so I'm going to keep trying to post for Sharing the Joy on my Christmas blog.  However, my ongoing read-a-long of Stephen King's Dark Tower series is going to have to be reconfigured so, if you're taking part in that, be watching for details over at the Stephen King Challenge blog.

What I'm reading....
  • I'm hoping to still be able to participate in the Les Miserables read-a-long, but I'm already behind on it.
  • I've been keeping up nicely with The Hobbit read-a-long.  Hopefully, I continue to.
  • Whirlpool by Eileen Hodgetts for review this week (Wednesday)
  • Merry Ex-Mas by Sheila Roberts for review this week (Friday)

TTBA Weekly News and Mailbox Monday

This feature was inspired by It's Monday! What are you reading? hosted by Sheila at Book Journey and also by The Sunday Salon.

Listening To:  My son's 11th birthday was Friday and my sister got him the "NOW That's What I Call Party Anthems" CD and one of the CDs I bought him was "Queen's Greatest Hits" (yes, he has great taste in music) so we've been listening to those.  We also got him his own CD boom box.  That party anthems CD has some great dance songs on it!

Book finished: zero....zilch  =O(

Reading: Gilead by Marilynne Robinson, The Waste Lands by Stephen King, Shakespeare's CoriolanusThe Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer (the 2nd half of it)

On the Nightstand:  The Home by Scott Nicholson, Spooky Showcase by Alan Draven, a couple other review books (haven't picked which yet), Les Miserables by Victor Hugo (maybe)

Watching:  More new Christmas movies on Hallmark Channel and Lifetime this past weekend.  I'm in my element! Also, watched "The Return of the King" on Encore today.  Love that movie! And I'm beyond thrilled...I got free advance screening passes to "Life of Pi" on Thursday night!!! I can't believe it.  One of my most favorite books of all time.  I hope it's good!

Making:  I've had some nice fabric to recover the seats of my dining room chairs for years so I'm going to get started on that...hopefully this week, in between working on my book.  At least my house is clean.  We're also going to start putting up Christmas decorations this weekend.  Squeeee!

Grateful for:  My house being clean (as mentioned above) and for all the family and friends who helped to make Gabe's birthday party special on Saturday.

Looking forward to:  Well, not actually looking forward to it because it started today, but glad to be in it...my write-a-thon, Sit Down and Write 2.  It's not too late to SIGN-UP.  I'm still hoping it will help me catch up on my NaNoWriMo word count!

Also...have you seen?  I've posted the sign-ups and official dates for the Christmas Spirit Reading Challenge! All the details HERE.

Picture:  I finally got my bookshelves put together after they sat in their boxes for months.  How do you like my corner window bookshelves nook?

TTBA Weekly News and Mailbox Monday

This feature was inspired by It's Monday! What are you reading? hosted by Sheila at Book Journey and also by The Sunday Salon.

Listening To:  Nothing much really...a few Christmas tunes here and there. =O)

Book finished: The Passage by Justin Cronin, The Drawing of the Three by Stephen King, Days of Splendor, Days of Sorrow by Juliet Grey

Reading: Gilead by Marilynne Robinson, The Waste Lands by Stephen King, Shakespeare's Coriolanus, The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

On the Nightstand:  The Home by Scott Nicholson, Spooky Showcase by Alan Draven, a couple other review books (haven't picked which yet), Les Miserables by Victor Hugo (maybe)

Watching:  I saw the newest "Resident Evil" movie over the weekend.  I didn't like it as well.  Too much fighting and shooting, not enough zombies.  LOL! I also watched "We Bought a Zoo" on HBO. What an inspiring movie.  Just a really great film! I also enjoyed the Christmas movie marathon on the Hallmark Channel all weekend and the two new Christmas movies they debuted, "The Christmas Song" and "Love at the Thanksgiving Parade."

Making: ...myself get this house in order for my son's birthday party this Saturday and also in preparation for the Christmas decorating to commence soon after.

Grateful for:  the election finally being over tomorrow.  Whatever the outcome, I'm just glad there will be no more bad blood (I hope) between people.

Looking forward to: my son's 11th birthday on Friday and his party on Saturday.  Also, the bag sale at my monthly book sale on Saturday.  Melissa's read-a-thon this weekend and my write-a-thon, Sit Down and Write 2, next week (you can still SIGN-UP).  Hopefully, the write-a-thon will help me get caught up on my NaNoWriMo word count!

Picture:  Yeah, that about sums it up...

Check out this lovely book I received from Titan Books.  I'm assuming for review.  My sons literally flipped their lids over this one.  One of their favorite video games.  I thought about reviewing this over at Castle Macabre, but a lot of this game has historical settings.  You should see the period dress and locales in the art work.  Watch for my review on this blog soon.

TTBA Weekly News and Mailbox Monday

This feature was inspired by It's Monday! What are you reading? hosted by Sheila at Book Journey and also by The Sunday Salon.

Listening To:  No new music at this time, but Rudolph Day is Thursday so I expect there will be more Christmas music on the agenda.

Book finished: none (sad)

Reading: The Drawing of the Three (Dark Tower #2) by Stephen King, The Passage by Justin Cronin, Here Be Dragons by Sharon Kay Penman.

On the Nightstand:  The Witch's Trinity by Erika Mailman, The Home by Scott Nicholson, Days of Splendor, Days of Sorrow by Juliet Grey.

Watching:  The last presidential debate (ugh) and the Lions/Bears game on Monday Night Football. Yes, I'm a Lions fan (Michigan native here). "Dancing with the Stars" was good. Loved the group routine to "Call Me Maybe" (love that song). "RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars" starts tonight...can't wait! I saw "Lawless" over the weekend, based on the true story of the Bondurant brothers who were bootleggers in Virginia during prohibition, which starred Shia Lebouf, Tom Hardy (great, great role!), Jessica Chastain, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce. Based on the book, The Wettest County in the World by Matt Bondurant.  Excellent film...I recommend it.  I will definitely be reading the book.

Making: plans for NaNoWriMo....researching, outlining, etc.  Also, Sit Down and Write 2, a write-a-thon for writing whatever you need to write...your novel, stories, book reviews...is set for November 12 - 25.  Click HERE or the button for details and sign-up.

Grateful for:  people like Adam at Roof Beam Reader who completely summed up in this post why I'm a Democrat and why I'm voting to re-elect President Obama.

Looking forward to: my son's fourth grade music recital this week.  He has a singing solo and a speaking part!

Picture:  It has to be a cat pic! This one is nice and scary (and funny) for Halloween, shared with me by Irene Palfy on Facebook.

TTBA Weekly News and Mailbox Monday

This feature was inspired by It's Monday! What are you reading? hosted by Sheila at Book Journey and also by The Sunday Salon.

New format for TTBA Weekly News.  I've seen this used by Lisa at Lit and Life and Tobe at Wading Through the Ocean of Life so I thought I would give it a go.  I changed it up a bit to suit my style. =O)

Listening To:  I checked out three Christmas CDs at the library, Carole King "A Holiday Carole," Scott Weiland "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year," and Amy Grant "The Christmas Collection" plus I bought two at the library sale a couple of weeks ago, Peter Kater "Xmas Ecstasy" and Mary Chapin Carpenter "Come Darkness, Come Light: Twelve Songs of Christmas."  I also picked up System of a Down "Hypnotize" at the library sale on Saturday.

Book finished: Oxford Whispers by Marion Croslydon

Reading: The Drawing of the Three (Dark Tower #2) by Stephen King, The Passage by Justin Cronin, Here Be Dragons by Sharon Kay Penman.

On the Nightstand:  The Witch's Trinity by Erika Mailman and possibly a couple other witchy books for my Season of the Witch challenge at Castle Macabre.  The Home by Scott Nicholson

Watching: What don't I watch?  LOL! There are so many great shows on right now.  Loved the Season 3 premiere of "The Walking Dead" last night.  On the movie front, I saw "Sinister" over the weekend and it scared the beJesus out of me! I'm going to review it on Castle Macabre this week.  A definite must-see.  Another must-see that I saw last night..."Brave."  What a wonderful movie!

Making: Nothing crafty at the moment, but I am making a list of what I need to get done.  I have to plan for Sit Down and Write 2 in November and get my novel plans in order for NaNoWriMo.  Yes, I think I may take the plunge again. *face palm*

Grateful for:  What a wonderful birthday I had thanks to my family.  And for all the well-wishes I received here and over on Facebook.

Looking forward to: getting my house in order so I can start decorating for Christmas in November.

Picture:  These are the gifts my sister sent me for my birthday.  Two porcelain Harlequin dolls, one with a Christmas outfit and the other with Halloween.  Also, an old tea tin with a historical image and a TY ghost Beanie Baby named Sheets.  So sweet of her!

I had to forego my regular longer news post and Mailbox Monday because time got away from me.  I will tell you that I received this wonderful book last week:

I am reading it for review for a blog tour...which is tomorrow.  Yes, another all night reading session!

I will have a full Mailbox Monday post next week with all the goodies I bought at the library sale over the weekend.

In other news...

Please check out the poll for our next read-a-long (right sidebar) at Historical Fiction Connection and please vote if you have an inkling to join us.  There'a a post HERE that tells about each selection in the poll.

Check out my Halloween event and mini-reading challenge going on throughout the month of October at Castle Macabre.  You can read all about Season of the Witch HERE.

I'm kicking around some ideas for a back to back or combination read-a-thon/write-a-thon.  The read-a-thon will focus entirely on review books.  I'm kicking around ideas and I'll be looking for opinions so be sure to stop by Seasons of Reading and give me your input.  My November is pretty open until my Christmas Reading Challenge starts Thanksgiving week.  Are we really that close to Thanksgiving and Christmas?  Gah!

What's going on in your neck of the woods?

TTBA Weekly News and Mailbox Monday

This feature was inspired by It's Monday! What are you reading? hosted by Sheila at Book Journey and also by The Sunday Salon.

Hello there! It has been extremely busy in my life lately.  While I'm super grateful that I finally have a job--and a work-at-home one at that--I'm still getting used to the way working and fitting everything else in works.  I just hosted a week long write-a-thon over at my writing blog during which I was supposed to get a big chunk of my novel written.  I didn't write.one.word.  *frown*  I'm not giving up hope though.  Just have to plug on and figure out what kind of schedule works best for me.

What's going on in my/the reading world....

Details will be posted over there soon.  If you are interested in participating by writing a guest post or, if you're an author, and you'd like to donate a book for a giveaway or share a guest post, let me know.  The focus is going to be witches (I'm going to be reading my fair share of witch-related fiction), but anything scary is game! Be watching for details at Castle Macabre.

How could I resist!?  Since I already started reading it earlier this year and had planned on finishing, why not?  It is a re-read for me, but it's one of my absolute favorites.  Details are HERE.  Hosted by Fanda Classiclit.

TTBA Weekly News and Mailbox Monday

This feature was inspired by It's Monday! What are you reading? hosted by Sheila at Book Journey and also by The Sunday Salon.

I can't believe that it has been two weeks since I've posted a news and MM post! I've been so busy and frankly, I just haven't felt like it.  I think sometimes we just have to take these little breaks to maintain our sanity.  It certainly has been busy in the book blogging world lately.  My read-a-thon finished and then more started (not that I'm complaining...I love read-a-thons!).  This week, there are two going on and then next Monday starts what I'm going to tell you about next...read on!

What's going on in my/the reading world....

Monday starts my Sit Down and Write Write-a-Thon! This write-a-thon is for any writing you need to get done, whether it be novel writing, writing reviews, short stories, journaling...whatever writing you want to accomplish, this is the week for you! Since we're going to be coming off a bunch of read-a-thons, I would imagine you'll have a lot of reviews to catch up on.  I'm going to be concentrating on catching up my word count on my novel, which I'm trying to finish during Camp NaNoWriMo.  But even if I don't finish, at least I'll get a lot accomplished.  I'm hosting this over at my writing blog, The Story Inside Me.  For details and sign-up, go HERE.

I just announced this over at the Stephen King Challenge.  We're reading the entire Dark Tower series from September this year through July 2013! You can check out the details and sign up at the dedicated blog HERE.

We're into the second week of the Wolf Hall Read-a-Long so there's still time to catch up! The reading and posting schedules can be found HERE.  It's a great book.  You should join us!

Coming in October to Castle Macabre...Season of the Witch! Details will be posted over there soon.  If you are interested in participating by writing a guest post or, if you're an author, and you'd like to donate a book for a giveaway, let me know.  The focus is going to be witches (I'm going to be reading my fair share of witch-related fiction), but anything scary is game! Be watching for details at Castle Macabre.

What I'm reading....

I'm currently participating in the Bout of Books 5.0 read-a-thon.  You can check out what I'm reading at this POST.  My updates are in a sticky at the top of the blog.
