DEWEY UPDATES AND MINI-CHALLENGES--IN THE BODY OF THIS POST.
I'm hosting the
Spring into Horror Read-a-Thon over at
Seasons of Reading this week. You can still join us. You can do that
HERE.
I'm hoping to get a lot of reading done this week.
Dewey's 24 hour Read-a-Thon is Saturday and for once, I will not be going anywhere so I just might do better than I normally do for a 24 hour read-a-thon. I'm also considering participating in the
Weekday Read-a-Thon on Wednesday, hosted by
Love at First Book and
The Book Wheel, where you just try to read more than you normally would on a weekday. We shall see! All of my reading plans below will count for all three read-a-thons. My updates will appear below also. On with the goodies:
The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty--my scary title for this week
Night Demon by Lisa Kessler--finish reading
Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier--catch up for TBT read-a-long
Crime and Punishment--catch up for U read-a-long
The Arrow Chest by Robert Parry
Silk Road by Colin Falconer
Lifetime of Achievement: 7 Goal Setting Strategies that Work by Jordan Maylea Ramirez--for book tour on Friday

End of Event meme
1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
I made it to hour 21 (about 3:30am CST). It proved to be the most daunting and I promptly fell asleep!
2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
Well, The Exorcist was pretty eye opening, even at first, though I didn't get far into it. I know not many people read horror though.
3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
None.
4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
You had some awesome hosts this year!
5. How many books did you read?
one
6. What were the names of the books you read?
Night Demon by Lisa Kessler and a small percentage (32 pages) of The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty
7. Which book did you enjoy most?
I really enjoyed Night Demon.
8. Which did you enjoy least?
not applicable under the circumstances
9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
Not a cheerleader, though I visited quite a few blogs
10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
I will probably participate again, especially if I'm able to be home all day like I was this time. I will probably be a reader again.
Haiku
A demon's afoot
A little girl will be lost
the priest will save her.
Casting Couch
Book:
Night Demon by Lisa Kessler
Character: Lukas Stanislov-- a Night Walker, a vampire/shape shifter hybrid of Russian descent.
Actor: Louis Garrel-- I just found this guy after putting 'dark haired actors' in the Google image search. He's dreamy! He is actually French, but he has a Russian look to him, I think.
Note: Lisa Kessler, who is a friend of mine, has her own ideas of who should play Lukas...Goran Visnjic, which I can't disagree with, but I didn't want to steal her idea. ;O)
Cooking the Books
The Eggsorcist--a chef creates extraordinary dishes to coax out the hidden flavor of the egg. With recipes like
Split Pea Soup and Eggs and
Green Eggs and Ham Florentine, the true nature of the egg is finally revealed.
(in case it isn't obvious, the book is
The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty)
Mid-Event Survey and Update #1
1) How are you doing? Sleepy? Are your eyes tired?
Of course, I keep getting sleepy. Eyes are a bit tired actually. Hmmm.
2) What have you finished reading?
Nothing yet, but only lack about 50 pages until I finish Night Demon and then on to The Exorcist. Perfect for night reading!
3) What is your favorite read so far?
I've only been reading one book so can't really answer that.
4) What about your favorite snacks?
Kind of boring...Sour Skittles and Bold flavor Chex Mix
5) Have you found any new blogs through the readathon? If so, give them some love!
Not yet.
Best and Worst Covers
I'm reading the 40th anniversary edition of
The Exorcist on my Kindle. This is the cover. It's kind of sophisticated looking, but I think it should be more creepy or in your face then this.
This is the original cover, I think. Published in 1971. It's okay. It has a mildly creepy vibe.
This is the version I think I like the best. It's the 1984 mass market paperback edition. I like the way it shows the morphing from the girl to the demon.
Self-Portrait
It has been a rough morning. That's what I get for #DrunkHP last night.

Bon Appetit!
Introductory Questionairre
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
Nashville, TN
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
Sour Skittles...LOL
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
Since this RAT is all about the books, I'll tell you that my home library numbers at 3000+ books. Plus, I love my two sons and my two cat daughters. ;O)
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
The one thing I'm doing differently this time is participating almost the entire 24 hours. Previously, I always had something going on over the weekend so could only do about 12 hours, give or take.
