24 HOUR READ-A-THON--MID-EVENT SURVEY
Mid-Event Survey:
1. What are you reading right now? still Dante's Journey
2. How many books have you read so far? still on the first one (didn't really start seriously until 5:00pm)
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? Hopefully, I will get to The Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin.
4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day? I could have arranged to NOT go to the two library sales I went to, but I'm an addict so what else can I say. =O)
5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? See above. My boys are actually being great (right now) and Reece is even reading with me. =O)
6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? that I haven't won a giveaway yet...darn! ;O)
7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? none
8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year? I always say I'll do something differently and I never do so....
9. Are you getting tired yet? nope...knock wood.

24 HOUR READ-A-THON--UPDATE ONE (SORT OF)
Okay...I'm back from the library sales and both sales were half price! I really got some good ones. I will post them all on my Mailbox Monday post. I didn't get any reading done. My mom doesn't have air in her car and we're having record highs in Nashville today. Too hot to concentrate! =O( So although I read a few pages here and there, nothing significant was accomplished. Now I'm ready to dig in and read. I'm just completing a couple of mini-challenges and visiting a couple of blogs and then it's on! Basically, my starting page in Dante's Journey was page 92. I'm now on page 97. Told you I didn't get much done. =O)
Hope everyone is having a fun time and enjoying their reading. Thanks for everyone who has stopped by and visited and cheered me on.
24 HOUR READ-A-THON--iNTRODUCTION
So...of course I overslept this morning...I could not sleep last night. Go figure! My official start time is now. I'm leaving for the library sales in 30 minutes, but Mom is driving so I'll be reading in the car.
1)Where are you reading from today?
I'm in Nashville, TN and I'll be reading mostly from home.
2)Three random facts about me…
I'm writing my first novel, I'm a procrastinator, I own 3000+ books (for those who don't already know)
3)How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?
Six
4)Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?
I'm hoping to finish the book I'm currently reading and maybe read two more. *fingers crossed*
5)If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, any advice for people doing this for the first time?
Just have fun because if you do, you won't feel guilty if you do not get a lot of reading done.
DEWEY'S 24 HOUR READ-A-THON
T minus seven hours and counting (my start time is 7:00am).
This is me because of the read-a-thon AND because I have TWO library sales tomorrow!
Will these two join me for a bit of read-a-thon reading...or will they drive me to distraction and prevent me from getting any reading done?
Will Alice curl up in my lap at least once whilst I'm reading...please?
Will this be me in the wee hours of Sunday morning?
We will just have to see how things play out. Now...on to my stack of books!

Dante's Journey is one I'm wanting to finish. BE: Embracing the Mystery is one I will probably just read a couple of chapters here and there. I need to finish it for a spot on the Angels and Warriors blog talk radio show on Tuesday night so I want to at least get it started. Captivity and Blood and Silk are ambitious additions, just in case by some miracle I get through the others. *smiles inwardly at self knowingly*

JOHN ADAMS READ-A-LONG--WEEK ONE
My thoughts:
My thoughts are going to be somewhat brief, as I do want to try to avoid spoilers. As I stated when I first announced that I was joining this read-a-long, I have wanted to read this book for a long time. After watching the stellar HBO mini-series starring Paul Giamati and Laura Linney, which was based on this book, I wanted to read it all the more.
Let me just say...I love John Adams! He strikes me as a man who is always inwardly thinking about self-improvement; about how to improve himself as a person. I actually found myself feeling very similar to him and this was largely due to this quote:
"Why have I not genius to start some new thought?" he asked at another point in his diary. "Some thing that will surprise the world?" Why could he not bring order to his life? Why could he not clear his table of its clutter of books and papers and concentrate on just one book, one subject? Why did imagination so often intervene?
One of the best experiences in reading is to be able to identify with a character you are reading about, whether it be a fictional character or a person who really lived/lives. In this very first chapter of this tome of a book, I 'get' Adams. What he was about. He sought self-improvement not for the sake of fame and fortune, but for an inherent need to constantly better himself. What he needed was a nudge...a guiding force. As he was to have said,
"Ballast is what I want. I totter with every breeze."
That ballast would come in the form of his new wife, Abigail. Abigail was a woman who knew what she wanted and was steadfast in everything she did. She was the guiding force that Adams needed. Almost immediately upon their marriage and setting up household, things began to change for Adams. It was almost like Abigail imbued him with some of her indomitable spirit right then and there.
Both Adams and Abigail were avid readers. Yet another reason why I find myself drawn to Adams's character. At one point he says,
"I read forever."
This one I will have to remember. What a simple statement for the love of books. I think my search is over for my literary tattoo. *L*
I can't wait to continue on with this book. It is proving to be an interesting and lively read. Those who think non-fiction to be dry and boring would be wrong in judging this book so.
