Every year, ALA's Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF) compiles a list of the Top 10 Most Challenged Books in order to inform the public about censorship in libraries and schools. The lists are based on information from confidential reports filed by library professionals and community members, as well as news stories published throughout the United States.
Because many book challenges are not reported to the ALA or covered by the press, the data compiled by ALA represent only a snapshot of censorship attempts in libraries. (ALA)

Author Statement
Identical tackles perhaps the most difficult subject matter of all. It is about identical twins whose father is sexually abusing one of them.
I chose this subject matter because the issue touched the lives of three of my friends. Today, they are successful, beautiful women who you would never believe this might have happened to. I want readers to know it is possible to find a way beyond this terrible place, into a brighter future.” —Ellen Hopkins
“Censorship comes from a place of fear. We fear that which is different, what we cannot comprehend. Books gift us with understanding, empower us with knowledge. So, obviously, would-be censors have it all wrong.” —Ellen Hopkins
Books 8 through 11 are actually a four-way tie. I will cover the next number 8 books (which are the final two books from the list) tomorrow. In the meantime, spread the word. There are tons of graphics, etc. for sharing on the ALA site here to help get the word out, or you can share this post.
Thanks for reading!

Thank you for visiting and taking the time to comment. It means so much.
I apologize for word verification, but as soon as I changed the settings from only users with Google accounts, I started receiving a ton of spam comments...within one hour of changing the settings. The bots are on high alert apparently.
