Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon--Starting, Mini-Challenges and Updates

Last night, I shared with you my goal for the read-a-thon and that is to read IT and that's IT.  Yup, I'm at it again! LOL! And here I am having overslept and almost three hours past start time.   Oh well, 9:30am start time it is!

THE END
I tried...I really did.  It seems I'm just not cut out for this 24 hour read-a-thon business.  This may be my last, unless the next one falls on a date when I have no other plans and I can devote the entire 24 hours to reading.  I ended up reading for a grand total of approximately 3 hours and only read about 50 pages.  That's just sad.  Looks like I'll be putting it away to read another at another time.  I'm sorry IT-along participants. =O(

1.  Which hour was most daunting for you?  Hour 20 because I promptly fell asleep and didn't wake up until after 7am.
2.  Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?  IT is a high interest book.  I just think it's probably too long for a 24 hour read-a-thon
3.  Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?  This might make some people mad, but I think there are way too many mini-challenges and it takes away from the reading.  For those of us who are slow readers and it's too hard NOT to participate in them.
4.  What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?  I like the prizes being back, even if I didn't win one.  =O(  JK
5.  How many books did you read?  less than one...much less
6.  What were the names of the books you read?  IT by Stephen King
7.  Which book did you enjoy most?  N/A
8.  Which did you enjoy least?  N/A
9.  If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?  N/A
10.  How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?  See my answer above.  There are going to be some contributing factors on whether I participate or not.  I would be a reader again, if I do participate.
UPDATES
I am royally tanking this read-a-thon.  I'm not surprised.  It always falls on a busy weekend for me.  Plus, I'm really terrible at 24 hour read-a-thons.  May as well face it! Now I'm just getting so tired. =O(

I'm headed out for the first of my birthday outings.  I will be reading when I can and will keep track of time and pages read.  See you later!

*I will update from this post.  All updates will appear just above this line*

Introductory Questionnaire
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
I'm reading from Nashville, Tennessee
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Since I'm only reading one 1000 page book, that would be IT by Stephen King
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
Going to pick me up some candy today so THAT would be it as well. =O)
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
Mom of two boys, avid reader, writer, virtual assistant and full-time procrastinator.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
I'm not sure what I'll do differently.  I may participate in less mini-challenges and focus on the reading more, especially since I'm going to be gone for a good part of the day.

Thank you for visiting and taking the time to comment. It means so much.

I apologize for word verification, but as soon as I changed the settings from only users with Google accounts, I started receiving a ton of spam comments...within one hour of changing the settings. The bots are on high alert apparently.

  6. I've never read IT, although I have read The Stand and loved that. Readathon seems like a perfect day to sit down and just go through a big old book like IT. Have a great day.

  7. Happy reading, Michelle!

I hope you'll cover a big chunk of IT :)

I went with shorter books this time.

  9. Oh, It is my very favourite of all Stephen King's books - what a great way to spend a read-a-thon! Though it does get pretty scary when you're reading in the middle of the night...

  12. Yeah it can be difficult to participate in read-a-thons when you have a lot of other things going on. Hope the next one will work out better for you.

  13. I understand your concern with the number of mini-challenges, but I don't think it'd be fair to take them away because a lot of people really do like entering them. It might just be a matter of self control... and believe me, I had the same problem. I found myself taking way more time than necessary to do the mini challenges, and I ended up not reading as much as I wanted.

  14. Happy Birthday , Michelle!! I would never be able to even think about a 24 Hour ReadAthon without feeling instantly exhausted! I cannot go without my standard 10 hours of sleep on the weekends, that's how I get through my work week. I did manage to get some reading in of course, and I am enjoying Here Be Dragons.

  15. I'm kind of with you on the mini-challenges. I don't end up doing very many of them and then I feel like I'm missing out on the fun. But I have enough distractions from the actual reading!

  16. I'm so glad that you took the time to visit my mini challenge :) I've done two 24 hour read-a-thons successfully and I always chose short books. IT is definitely not that, LOL.
    Happy Belated Birthday!
