Cat Thursday: Authors and Cats (103) The Black Cat Who Only Wanted to be Loved by Rosa Silva - Review

Welcome to the weekly meme that celebrates the wonders and sometime hilarity of cats! Join us by posting a favorite lolcat pic you may have come across, famous cat art or even share with us pics of your own beloved cat(s). It's all for the love of cats! Share the link to your post with your comment below.

The second Cat Thursday of each month is Authors and Cats Thursday. Each time I will feature an author (with a birthday during the month), pictured with their/a cat(s), or guest posts by cat loving authors who also (sometimes) write about cats.

First, I wanted to apologize for missing Cat Thursday last week. I became unwell late Wednesday night (another bout of cellulitis) and was too sick to put up my post. Thanks for understanding. ❤

I'm a fan of Rosa Silva's books. She knows cats (loves them) and has a knack for a story and humor. This book was wonderful. Everyone knows I'm the proud owner of two black cats so this one really hit home. It even had me in tears at one point. There have been many times of fear for my black cats when somehow one would get outside. Sadly, superstitions surrounding black cats are still around, even in this day and age.

Though this is classified as a children's book (middle grade), its message is an important one for everyone, big or small. This is the type of book I enjoyed reading as a child. Books about animals on adventures like The Incredible Journey or Black Beauty. The characters are funny and endearing. Themes of friendship, acceptance, and believing in yourself are all present and are revealed seamlessly in the story.

Balthazar the owl says, "You cannot control what others think of you. But what they think doesn't matter either. What others think says more about themselves and their prejudices than it does about you. What matters is what you think." Wise words to guide anyone.

For a first novel, this is excellent. I'm excited for the many people who will enjoy this book, young and old. Highly recommended.

About the book
Black cats mean bad luck…
…or do they?

Abandoned by his owner on the side of a road, little Pepper must go on a journey of self-discovery. Will the little black cat embrace his own identity, or will he change the color of his fur to find a family that will love him?

You will love this touching and inspiring story about the power of friendship and the importance of acceptance and self-love.

Available on Amazon.

#CatThursday - Rosa Silva's Get Your Butt Off My Face #Review

Welcome to the weekly meme that celebrates the wonders and sometime hilarity of cats! This week I'm reviewing Get Your Butt Off My Face by a good friend of Cat Thursday, Rosa Silva from Cat Lady Confidential.

Get Your Butt Off My Face is a funny bedtime book for all the desperate cat owners out there. If you have experienced the nightmare of having a cat that loves shoving its butts in your face, this is the book for you. This laugh-out-loud book reveals cats at their wackiest and performing their most exasperating behavior. It’s the perfect gift for crazy cat lovers who appreciate hilarious insights into the feline nature.

“Get Your Butt Off My Face” is now officially available on Amazon.

My thoughts
What cat parent has not despaired of the dreaded cat-butt-in-face. I mean, who can forget this famous image which graces countless memes on the internet...

As usual, the shenanigans of the cat are regaled in clever rhymes and funny anecdotes. Such as...
"I then realize the house is a mess.
You've been partying all day, I guess.
There's cat hair everywhere
even on my fresh underwear!"
Isn't that the truth!

Finally, what I've come to expect from Rosa's books...the fantastic illustrations by Diana Necsulescu. They add so much to the story. The facial expressions on both the cat mom (horror) and the cat (absolute satisfaction and smugness) are priceless.

Anyone looking for a pick-me-up in their day should definitely read this book. Loads of fun for cat lovers and really anyone looking for a short, fun read.

#CatThursday - #Authors and #Cats (85) Rosa Silva's Cat vs. Dog #Review

Welcome to the weekly meme that celebrates the wonders and sometime hilarity of cats! Join us by posting a favorite lolcat pic you may have come across, famous cat art or even share with us pics of your own beloved cat(s). It's all for the love of cats! (share your post in the Mr. Linky below)

The second Cat Thursday of each month is Authors and Cats Thursday. Each time I will feature an author with their cat(s), pictured with a cat(s), or guest posts by cat loving authors who also (sometimes) write about cats.

This week I'm reviewing Cat vs. Dog: The Pet Diaries 1 by a good friend of Cat Thursday, Rosa Silva from Cat Lady Confidential.

A cat’s diary versus a dog’s diary

Oliver, the cat, is the boss of the house. When his owner, Claire, brings home a dog she adopted from the shelter, Oliver decides to do anything to get rid of the dog. Will the cat succeed in getting the dog out of the house or will they become friends? Read along as Oliver the cat and Max the dog write down their diary entries that perfectly depict their completely different personalities and opposing views of the world.

My thoughts...
This book perfectly captures the real (or is it imagined?) animosity cats have for dogs so popularly publicized in a myriad of cat memes. In my experience, cats and dogs seem to get along rather well, but acknowledging that fact doesn't make this book, or those memes any less funny. Oliver is hopelessly negative toward Max, and uppity as all get out. What else can we expect when we know cats are the rulers of the universe. Max, on the other hand, has an exceptionally positive attitude and even considers Oliver to be his best friend. Even with the wonderful illustrations, I still had an image of their real life counterparts in my head.

Various shenanigans ensue and Oliver, who prides himself on being a detective (you'll see), finally admits that Max can be useful...and he's really soft.

This is a wonderful story. I enjoyed it as an adult and I know kids would get a kick out of it, as it's just the right length to read before bedtime. This is the first book in a planned series. I can't wait to read what Oliver and Max get up to next.

Cat vs. Dog is now officially available on Amazon.

#CatThursday - #Authors and #Cats (71) Rosa Silva's I'm Not Sorry: Poems by Cats #Review

This week I'm reviewing I'm Not Sorry, (a book of Poems by Cats) by a good friend of Cat Thursday, Rosa Silva from Cat Lady Confidential.

My thoughts on I'm Not Sorry
She has done it again! Completely capturing the funny and feisty (and often loving) sides of cats. Oh, but oops! This is a book of "Poems By Cats"...so, of course, they would be accurately portrayed. Seriously though, the poems in this book are cats to a T. I have a few favorites I will share here so you can see what I mean.

I like to sleep in the sink
it's also a great place to have a drink.
But fresh laundry is the best,
when I sleep there I feel so blessed.
The linen closet is also good for a nap,
or even your comfortable lap.
With so many great places to sleep,
why did you buy me a bed that looks so cheap?

Hilarious!

It's a blessing
to be a cat
do you know
how much humans love me

I meow to get your attention
look at me
play with me
pet me
I am your cat

Sometimes I love you
sometimes I hate you
sometimes I hate you and love you at the same time
I guess I'm human after all

Apologizing is
foreign to me
for I am a cat
and I'm always right

Truth! And this one is Alice's personal motto...

It's 6 a.m., it's time to eat.
It's 9 a.m., it's time for a treat.
It's 11 a.m., it's time for brunch.
It's 2 p.m., it's time for lunch.
It's 4 p.m., it's time for a snack.
It's 6 p.m., I could eat a macaque.
It's 8 p.m., it's time for dinner.
I'm sure this diet will make me thinner.

Love it!

I love this clever little book of poems. Another added delight is each section is headed by a particular cat accompanied by gorgeous cat images. For example: Petey O'Malley...The most shameless cat in the world.

If you're looking for a fun, light read that completely encompasses the attitudes and antics of cats, then this one is definitely for you.

About the Book
These cats have destroyed curtains, scratched couches, bitten hands, shredded toilet paper… and they are not sorry. Now they decided to celebrate their achievements in these insightful and funny poems written by themselves.

With titles like “It’s 6 a.m., time to wake up”, “I hate the vet”, “Oops, I did it again”, “Let me in”, and “Red dot, red dot”, this collection of laugh-out-loud poems offers a cat’s view on common wacky and exasperating feline behavior. It’s the perfect gift for crazy cat lovers who appreciate hilarious insights into the feline nature.

Praise

Melissa Lapierre from Mochas, Mysteries and Meows
“It goes without saying that every cat parent reading this poetry collection is going to see their precious little fur balls between the pages. Rosa Silva, the voice behind the Cat Lady Confidential blog, knows cats and this humorous look at their antics written by the kitties themselves as they delight in their mischief, is sure to put a smile on the face of every cat lover.”

Caren Gittleman from Cat Chat With Caren and Cody
”Anyone and everyone who has ever lived with, loved (and sometimes hated) their cat, can relate to this book! (…) Don’t let the size of this book fool you, it might be small, but the content is purr pure genius! It’s not easy for these kitties to convey their mischief as poems and they are purrfectly written.”

#CatThursday Rosa Silva's Stop Meowing and Go the F*ck to Sleep - #Review #cats

I have an extra special Cat Thursday for you this week! Our good Cat Thursday friend, Rosa from Cat Lady Confidential has written a very funny cat book, Stop Meowing and Go the F*ck to Sleep, and I'm reviewing it here today.

My thoughts
I enjoyed this book immensely. I'm a huge fan of Cortes and Mansbach’s adults-only bedtime story, Go the F*ck to Sleep, made famous by being read aloud by the illustrious Samuel L. Jackson. Anyone who has children can totally relate to that book. The same can be said for anyone who is the parent of a cat, or cats. They seriously do not want us to get any sleep. To say that cats are high maintenance is an understatement. We all know that they run our lives. Rosa perfectly captures this reality in this hilarious little book. I also must mention the brilliant illustrations. Rosa's illustrator, Diana Necsulescu perfectly captures the distress of the woman (Rosa) and the utter rapture and bliss of the kitty (Mr. Cat) who is clearly enjoying himself. Wonderfully expressive illustrations complete a book and that is clearly evident here.

The perfect addition to any cat lover's cat book library, Stop Meowing and Go the F*ck to Sleep would also make an excellent gift. Just make sure they have a sense of humor first. I'm a big fan of swearing (studies show...swearing means you're smarter. 😄 ) so this book scored extra points with me. Highly recommended!

About the book
Inspired by, and in the tradition of Cortes and Mansbach’s adults-only bedtime story, Go the F*ck to Sleep, Stop Meowing and Go the F*ck to Sleep is a funny take on the frustrations of losing sleep because of a feline friend. The struggle is real.

Anyone who is a cat lover knows that the cat rules the roost, and that certainly doesn’t change at bedtime. You might be ready to sleep, but you can bet that kitty is ready for just about anything but some shut-eye. Release your frustrations with a good laugh as you read along with Rosa and her struggle to get Mr. Cat to Stop Meowing and Go the F*ck to Sleep!

Stop Meowing and Go the F*ck to Sleep is a funny bedtime book for all the desperate cat parents out there. If you have experienced the nightmare of having a kitty who won’t let you have a good night’s sleep, this is the book for you. It’s the perfect gift for crazy cat lovers who appreciate hilarious insights into the feline nature.
