“Marley was dead, to begin with . . .” These chillingly familiar words begin the beloved classic A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Now R. William Bennett rewinds the story and focuses the spotlight on Scrooge’s miserly business partner, Jacob Marley, who was allowed to return as a ghost to warn Scrooge away from his ill-fated path. Why was Marley allowed to return? And why hadn’t he been given the same chance as Ebenezer Scrooge?
Or had he?

I love your list - some fabulous reads ahead of you!
ReplyDeleteThe Secret History is a good read, although I think the older you are with the first read of it, the less likely you'll be to rave and rave and have it as your all time top favourite.
I'll be curious to see what you think.
I saw this, it is in my queue.
ReplyDeleteYou have a chunkster there to read :) I decided to not pick the CC Spin number, but just to choose a book I have available now. I will choose my book when the CC Spin happens though. I chose The Moonspinners by Mary Stewart, which I already have on my kindle from last year. Thanks for sharing your great list.
ReplyDeleteI read this a few years ago. I loved it! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI'm reading that right now! Did you read The Goldfinch? I fell straight into that one but this one is slower going at the beginning. I'm about 100 pages in and finally really starting to get involved. Don't give up on it!
ReplyDeleteI listened to that one when it came out but I don't think I fully appreciated it. Look forward yo your thoughts :)
