A Christmas Carol

My most favorite Christmas book, and Christmas movie, of all time...A Christmas Carol.  When I heard a couple of years ago that Jim Carrey would be playing Scrooge in a new movie version of A Christmas Carol, I was thrilled.  However, when I found out it was going to be shot in performance-capture animation, I wasn't very happy.  I just prefer my Christmas Carol films to be with live action players.  Well, I went to see the new movie this weekend and I was very pleased.  They have really improved this type of animation.  The characters have an abundance of expression and the talent of the actors shines through.  As usual, Carrey was great.  And Gary Oldman and Colin Firth shined as well.  If you love Christmas and especially the story of A Christmas Carol, then I think you will like this movie.

Here are a few of my favorite versions of the movie:

Scrooge (1970)--starring Albert Finney

A Christmas Carol (1999)--starring Patrick Stewart

A Christmas Carol (1951)--starring Alastair Sim

A Diva's Christmas Carol (2002)--starring Vanessa Williams

Which is your favorite?  Will you see the new Disney version?

  1. I'm going to be taking my kids to watch this movie. Glad to hear it was good.

One of my favorite christmas movie is Scrooged with Bill Murray.

I'm getting excited for Christmas. The movies, carols, and Christmas tree. Tis the season!

  2. Love A Diva's Christmas Carol. I'm wanting to get this one for my Christmas movie collection. I'm so glad you didn't include Scrooged.

  3. My favorite version was the one with George C. Scott. Really scary parts in it! Loved it!

  4. I'm not a big fan of Scrooged either Ryan. Sorry Melissa.

I also like the George C. Scott version although I haven't watched it enough to determine it a favorite. I bought it last year on video at a used book sale so I'll have to watch it several times this year!

  5. Oh, YAY for christmas! I have always watched the Muppets Christams Carol, lol :) I'll have to try one of these this year! :)

  6. I'm not big on Jim Carrey, so will be giving this movie a pass. I think I watched 5 different versions of the movie last year. My absolute faves are "Scrooged" and "A Muppet Christmas Carol."

  7. Like the others, I also love Scrooged.

And I'm not a Carey fan, but the 3D animation in this is incredible. My son and I saw a preview on the Disney promo train in August. It was amazing. Still, $13 for a movie? Naw.

Finally, I have the Patrick Stewart audio of his one-man performance of A Christmas Carol. It's awesome.

  8. My favorite version is the one with George C Scott. He's so good at being a curmudgeon!

  9. I plan on seeing this movie as I like Jim Carrey..Thanks for the tip on the castle book. I did look it up and I can get a used one from Amazon cheap. I do not think I have that one....Thanks for stopping by
