To say I'm heartbroken is an understatement. I woke up to the news and immediately started crying my eyes out. This woman, and her books, meant the world to me for over 30 years. Her writing advice was gold, and her interaction with her fans was phenomenal. I can't even emphasize how much she will be missed, not just by me, but millions of fans around the world. I will honor her each year on December 11th with an in-memoriam post (as I do for Heath Ledger and David Bowie each January). Rest in peace, dear Anne.
Here are some of the posts featuring Anne and her work over my 12 years of blogging...
"I'm not good at future planning. I don't plan at all. I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow. I don't have a day planner and I don't have a diary. I completely live in the now, not in the past, not in the future."
Another year has passed with you gone from this earth. It's evident I'm not the only one who misses you.
“I'm standing here on the shoulders of my favorite actor, Heath Ledger, so, thank you.” Joaquin Phoenix, in his acceptance speech for Best Actor Screen Actor's Guild award for Joker.
Still hard to believe that he's gone. His legacy lives on. Also, I recently heard on Book Riot that his son, Duncan Jones has launched a David Bowie Book Club on Twitter. First book is Hawksmoor by Peter Ackroyd. He announced it in this tweet. I'm thinking of joining in unofficially. What a great way to keep David's memory alive. I love it!
We remember you, David. I will never forget the joy your music has given me, and as long as I'm still still listening, that joy will continue. I hope you are rocking out wherever you are.
Has it been a year already? The shock of finding out last year that he had passed, after battling cancer, which had been kept from the public. It was a shock! I have been a fan for so long. We were so lucky to have your brilliance for so many years. Wherever you are, I'm sure you are still dazzling, Starman. Rest in peace.
David Bowie - 8 January 1947 – 10 January 2016
(Image above is David with Catherine Deneuve during the filming of the 1983 film, The Hunger)
I was utterly shocked when I saw the Facebook post from David Bowie's page at 12:32 am this morning...that he had died from an 18 month long battle with cancer. I had no idea that he even had cancer. I don't think anyone but his family and closest friends were aware. Once I realized it was indeed true and not another hoax, I was hit with crushing sorrow. I have been a fan of his since I was a child. What can I say...my parents had great taste in music. I remember owning and wearing a David Bowie t-shirt to school regularly when I was in the 6th grade. Most of the other kids were like, "Who is he?" So, I consider myself a lifelong fan. His music in the 80s defined me, and then I rediscovered his earlier stuff in the late 80s/early 90s. And then there was his acting career. Who can forget his stellar role in Labyrinth or his fantastic, yet heartbreaking, turn in the masterpiece that was The Hunger.
I will truly, truly miss him and will now be adding another yearly tribute to my blog in January, each year on the day of his death, January 10, 2016 (I post a tribute to Heath Ledger each year on January 22, the date of his death...this will be the 7th year). I have his biography, David Bowie: Starman by Paul Trynka so I will be reading it very soon...if I can get past the sadness.
As a tribute today to what truly defined him, his genius music, I've shared some of my favorites below.

I'm foregoing Authors and Cats this week (will postpone until next week) to pay tribute to a kitty that crossed the "Rainbow Bridge" during the holidays. Amanda, beloved fur baby of Teddy at So Many Precious Books, So Little Time, passed away just after Christmas. As always, our hearts go out to anyone who loses a precious pet, especially someone from our little community on the net. Teddy wrote a wonderful memorial post for Amanda on her blog. You can stop by and read it here. We are so sorry for your loss, Teddy. May Amanda find peace across the Rainbow Bridge. She will surely be watching over her beloved family.

Today I'd like to take a moment to pay tribute to Anna's (Herding Cats & Burning Soup) beloved, Zack, who passed away at age 11 1/2. He had a long life for such a big dog and he sure was a lover of the kitties. Precious, precious boy...may you meet up with loved ones across the Rainbow Bridge. Anna and family, please know that my heart breaks for you. *Many, many hugs* (I hope you don't mind that I used your image)
So we don't stay sad all day (because the more I look at that pic of Zack and baby Gladys, the more I cry), here's a bit of whimsy....

Authors and their cats is on standby this week so I could post a tribute to my friend, Amy's (Passages to the Past) beloved kitty, Jasta, who passed yesterday.
Amy had this to say about Jasta on her Facebook page:
"I am sad to report that we lost our sweet little Jasta kitty this morning. Long story short, they aren't sure what happened and why she was so ill at such a young age. She was only a little over 3 years old. She came into our lives around Christmas 3 years ago. Our neighbor found her outside but couldn't keep her. We weren't sure we could keep her either, but she was too damn cute so there was no way we couldn't. This was at a time in my life where I wasn't sure we would have more kids so she was my pseudo baby and I loved her beyond words. I know you aren't supposed to have favorites, but she was mine. She loved to play "bat the kibble" with me. She would sit on the stool next to the kitchen bar and I would slide her a piece of kibble and she would bat it off the counter and jump down to gobble it up. She would do it over and over, it was just hysterical! She was named after a heavy metal singer and the name really suited her personality. She was our wild child, part kitty and part squirrel. Jasta honey, I will miss you terribly and I am so sorry that I wasn't with you when you passed. We love you so very, very much. Rest in peace, my sweet girl." It's always so sad to hear of someone losing their beloved pet. Our hearts go out to Amy and her family. Although we have probably all read this beautiful quote about the Rainbow Bridge, I thought I'd share it again today in honor of Jasta. It never ceases to touch my heart. RIP, dear Jasta.
