#CatThursday - #Authors and #Cats (80) Albert Schweitzer

Welcome to the weekly meme that celebrates the wonders and often hilarity of cats! Join us by posting a favorite lolcat pic you may have come across, famous cat art or even share with us pics of your own beloved cat(s). It's all for the love of cats! The second Cat Thursday of each month is Authors and Cats Thursday. Each time I will feature an author with their cat(s), pictured with a cat(s), or guest posts by cat loving authors who also (sometimes) write about cats.

This month's author birthday is Albert Schweitzer, born January 14, 1875 (d. September 4, 1965). How did I not know what a lover of cats he was!

He was quoted to have said: "The are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats." I would have to agree, but I would also add books.

Albert Schweitzer, M.D., OM, was an Alsatian theologian, musician, philosopher, and physician. He was born in Kaisersberg in Alsace-Lorraine, a Germanophone region which the German Empire returned to France after World War I. Schweitzer challenged both the secular view of historical Jesus current at his time and the traditional Christian view, depicting a Jesus who expected the imminent end of the world. He received the 1952 Nobel Peace Prize in 1953 for his philosophy of "reverence for life", expressed in many ways, but most famously in founding and sustaining the Lambaréné Hospital in Gabon, west central Africa.

With his cat, Sizi

Some of the books he wrote: The Quest of the Historical Jesus, The Primeval Forest, The Philosophy of Civilization: The Decay & the Restoration of Civilization/Civilization & Ethics

Thank you for visiting and taking the time to comment. It means so much.

I apologize for word verification, but as soon as I changed the settings from only users with Google accounts, I started receiving a ton of spam comments...within one hour of changing the settings. The bots are on high alert apparently.

  1. Fascinating! I don't know a lot about him. I had no idea he was such a philosopher. He's great in my book if he's a cat lover!
