A Reading Life--March is almost in the history books

This feature was inspired by It's Monday! What are you reading? hosted by Sheila at Book Journey and also by The Sunday Salon.

Listening To:  Still listening to The Stand on audio, but not much because I haven't been driving and when the kids are in the car, they don't really want to listen to my audio book. LOL! I did find one of my old burned CDs with some great tracks on it by Matthew Sweet, Beck, Soul Coughing, and Muse. We were listening to that yesterday on our way to the movies.

Book finished: I'm almost finished with The Remains of the Day.

Reading: Crime and Punishment by Feodor Dostoyevsky, Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons, Little Women, The Arrow Chest by Robert Parry.

What I have left to read this month...I need to at least finish Cold Comfort Farm. It's my Classics Club Spin read.

Coming Up Next:  Wildish by Robert Parry, Flesh by Khanh Ha for a book tour/review in early April, Silk Road by Colin Falconer and I have a list of books for Once Upon a Time VII that I can choose from. Plus, our TuesBookTalk read for April which we're still voting on, but it's looking like it's going to be Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier.

Watching:  Went to the $2 discount theater again this weekend. Mom, the boys and I saw Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. It was pretty good. I love Jeremy Renner. The real surprise was Beautiful Creatures, which I saw on Sunday with my mom and my aunt. I thought it was pretty good too. A lot better than I expected, that's for sure. I love the actor who played Ethan. He is too cute! On TV, last night was the second to last episode of Walking Dead before the season finale next week. What a revelation! I don't know if I can wait until Fall for it to come back. Ugh! Tonight is the premiere of The Voice with new judges Shakira (love her) and Usher. I don't usually watch it in the very beginning because the blind auditions tend to drag on, but I may pop over and check out snippets. Also, tonight is Bates Motel and Revolution finally returns! Oh, and I have to mention something I was talking about on Facebook earlier. I've been watching Vikings and The Bible on The History Channel and liking them both, although I have to admit that I think Vikings is a better made and acted series. However, the actor who portrays Jesus in The Bible...Portuguese actor, Diogo Morgado...is a hottie. Yes, I said it...Jesus is hot! LOL!

Making:  Made something called Coney Island burgers last weekend. Ground beef mixed with diced onion, pickle relish and barbecue sauce and shape into hot dog shape. Well, they fell apart so I ended up just cooking it kind of like low sauce sloppy joes. We ate it on hot dogs buns with mustard and it was quite yummy. I also made zucchini fritters. Shredded zucchini with shredded carrots mixed with flour and butter for breading and deep fried. Eat with ketchup. Absolutely delicious!

Grateful for:  I'm having a particularly bad night so it's hard to think of what I'm grateful for. So, I'm grateful to be alive and healthy and I'm glad that my sons are healthy. How's that? Tomorrow will be a better day. *fingers crossed*

Looking forward to:  I know I said a couple of weeks ago that I was looking forward to the boys' Spring break. Well, now I'm looking forward to them going back to school next week. It's even more difficult now that we're living with my mom because I have to consider her feelings too and we just have different parenting styles. I guess that's true for a lot of people.

Picture:  Grumpy cat doesn't even like Anderson Cooper...

  1. You aren't supposed to think Jesus is hot :-)

I tried watching The Vikings show, but couldn't get into it, and I forgot to record Bates Motel tonight.

  2. I recorded The Walking Dead and Revolution. I'm looking forward to watching them both. I saw the first episode of The Bates Motel and it was really good. I forgot to record the second episode, though. I'll have to catch it on demand. Have a great week!

  3. I've heard The Bible is good--I tend not to like reenactment shows, but maybe I'll give this a try.

Your book list is great--I'm really looking forward to finally reading Remains of the Day, so I hope you're liking it. Cold Comfort Farm is such a kick--I love it because I really used to groove on D.H. Lawrence, and then one day I realized how over the top it was. CCF was the perfect antidote.

  4. UUUUUUGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH Michelllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Those Coney Island Sloppy hot messes sound so delish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(I gave up beef for lent, I feel like I'm starving)

I watch The Bible and The Vikings on Sunday nights. Hubby says Bates Motel is good, but I am already at my limit of TV Shows. I just decided to stop watching The Following also. Once it got too over the top kooky I found myself rolling my eyes more often than not. I've been missing some of my other fave shows like Person of Interest and the Sherlock one, I wonder if they have been reruns or something but somehow I fell out of touch with them. It's been a crazy month, I am so glad March is almost over.
