R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril, VIII

Read two books of any length that you believe fit within the R.I.P. categories.

I'm going to read at least two (plus the group read):
  • Joyland, Stephen King
  • Wheel of Fortune Spin selection- Season of the Witch, Natasha Mostert (curious? Look here)

This is for those of us that like to watch suitably scary, eerie, mysterious gothic fare during this time of year. It may be something on the small screen or large. It might be a television show, like Dark Shadows or Midsomer Murders, or your favorite film. If you are so inclined, please post links to any R.I.P.-related viewing you do on to the Review Site as well.

Insidious 2, anyone? I'll be seeing it the first weekend it's out. I can't wait! I'm also hoping to see a film called We Are What We Are. See the trailer HERE. It looks off the hook! I'm sure I will be watching more scary, as I LOVE horror films and anything remotely scary or creepy.

Finally, there's this...

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. This will be a re-read for me, but it's one of my favorite books and I've often thought I would read it again someday. Why not join in with others in reading it this time? Too right!

Thanks to Carl for hosting once again. I look forward to his "challenges" every year!

My second announcement is regarding one of the challenges I host, the 101 Fantasy Reading Challenge.  I have decided (with input from participants) to make the challenge a perpetual challenge.  Also, I will be doing quarterly mini-challenges for incentive.  We all know how hard it is to stick to a perpetual challenge without incentive...raise of hands please! My hand is perhaps raised the highest...haha!  Anyway, for full   details about the challenge and mini-challenge...and for sign up, visit the dedicated challenge blog HERE.  Hope to see you there!

Announcements

First of all, I wanted to take a moment to recognize that I passed 150 followers on Friday! Thank you so much to all of my followers.  I really appreciate that you read what I write and leave such great comments!

Now, on to the next bit of news.  For those of you who know Bella of A Bibliophile's Bookshelf, you probably have heard that she is going to give up her blog and will no longer be blogging.  What you may not have known (or maybe you did) was that Bella was hosting the 101 Fantasy Reading Challenge.  When I found out she was leaving, I asked her if she would like me to take over the challenge and she was very glad for me to do it.  So, without further ado, I am now the official host of the 101 Fantasy Reading Challenge!  I have created a dedicated blog for the challenge here.  If you already signed up on Bella's blog, you will need to sign up again there (could not transfer the original Mr. Linky).  And if you haven't signed up and would like to, please join us...the more the merrier! Also, please be sure to follow the blog as there will be a challenge meme and I'm thinking about hosting a giveaway this summer.

I sure will miss blogging with Bella, as I'm sure we all will.  But I'm so glad that I was able to carry on this excellent challenge she created.  Thanks Bella!

Stress? What Stress.....

Am I crazy or did I really sign up for my first NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)?  As if I don't have enough on my plate! I have been very neglectful of my reading of late due to reading overload for my 'History of England before 1700' class.  My midterm is Friday (yuck, the day after my birthday) so I'm cramming for it too (isn't procrastination just lovely).  I was also struggling with a College Algebra class (I'm talking sweating blood here) that I have since dropped.  I have determined that I cannot take a math class online so will take it at a later date...on campus.  I have also decided to participate in Dewey's 24 hour Read-A-Thon.  Still have to come up with my list of reads.  Hope I can overlap with the RIP Challenge as I'm behind on that as well.  I've also joined Bella's (A Bibliophile's Bookshelf) 101 Best Fantasy Challenge, but at least that goes for a whole year! Should be manageable, huh?  I've got a blog tour coming up for Random Magic by Sasha Soren...will be posting the schedule later.  I've got a review of Frank Beddor's Seeing Redd in the works and I'm reading and reviewing his newest book, Arch Enemy.  I'll also be doing an interview with Mr. Beddor (hopefully).  With my Christmas Reading Challenge starting on Thanksgiving and with Christmas being my most busy time of year AND with the recent decision to transfer my Christmas MySpace page to a Christmas blog, it's just going to get worse! Still...I shall prevail, as I thrive on deadlines (I guess I really am crazy)!

In honor of my birthday tomorrow (October 15), I decided to host my first giveaway.  It's going to be a book from my own very crowded shelves so be sure to stop by and enter!

Bear with me people...there is always a light at the end of the tunnel =o)

And, as always, Happy Reading!

101 Fantasy Reading Challenge

I've decided to take on Bella's, at A Bibliophile's Bookshelf, 101 Fantasy Reading Challenge.  I'm going to follow her lead and pick 30 books (of which I already own)...15 from the actual 101 and 15 from the rest of the list.

Addendum:  I'm adding one more book to the latter 15...I recently acquired The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss so I'm adding it to the list.  This brings my total to 31 books!
So here are the rules:

1. Pick the number of books you want to read. It can be a mixture of the top 101, and/or the whole list. For example, you might want to aim to read 5 from the top 101 and 5 from the rest of the list.
2. Create a list of the books you want to tackle. You can create a list now, or add them as you go. Completely up to you.
3. The challenge runs from 10/10/09 to 10/10/10.
4. Please post the direct link to your 101 Fantasy Reading Challenge post. (so that other participants can visit and see what you are reading)

Click on Bella's blog title above to go to the Mr. Linky and sign up.  Be sure to do your post first and then link it there.
