Read Your Own Books Read-a-Thon Updates/Wrap-Up

Update 9/18/11:  Well, this read-a-thon has not been going well.  I woke up yesterday with a cold and have felt like total crap.  I did go out yesterday with my mom for our weekly Saturday excursions (library sale, out to eat, movie) and when I got home yesterday evening, I really felt horrible.  So, not much reading.  Just falling asleep and constant sneezing and runny nose.  Ugh!

-read 54 pages of The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
-read about 20 pages of The Midwife's Tale
-read 5 pages of Dust by Joan Frances Turner

Yeah, I suck!

Wrap-up 9/18/11:

Add to the above--1/2 of Dust, 205 pages

Not giving a books read total, since I only read parts of different books.
Total pages read--284

Pretty sad. =O(  That's what happens when you get sick I guess.

Thanks to Monica for hosting! Wish I would have done better.

Read Your Own Books Read-a-Thon

Another read-a-thon...how can I resist! The Read Your Own Books Read-a-Thon is being hosted by Monica at The Bibliophilic Book Blog.

DETAILS:

- Read Your OWN books
- Runs from 9pm on Thursday the 15th (EST)...some of my posts might be a bit off since I am 11 hours ahead of EST in KST. Sorry for that...anyway it will run until Sunday the 18th at 9pm (EST). This should give everyone some time to participate.
- GIVEAWAYS (DUH!?!) I personally am giving away a Nook original in a cover. I am also giving away multiple audiobooks and whatever else strikes my fancy. In order to enter the giveaway for the Nook you must participate....it will be finished when the read-a-thon is over. So...start planning.

Go HERE to sign up.

I'm not sure how much I can participate, but I have a few books to read:

_The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (catch up on this TuesBookTalk read-a-long book from my own shelves)
-Dust by Joan Frances Turner

Some writing books that I own:

-A Novel Idea
-The Art and Craft of Writing Historical Fiction by James Alexander Thom
Will probably add more.

Goals: Catch up on The Name of the Wind, read all of Dust, get some reading done in some writing books
Snacks: Same old snacks I always eat! Since being on this diet, I'm limited so peanut butter, peanuts/nuts, pork rinds, diet coke.  No chocolate...sob. ='O(
Where: living room in my cozy chair with ottoman

I'm going to add another sticky post above my Back of the Book Reviews month long read-a-thon update post.  Will also update on Twitter @truebookaddict using hashtag #SIRYOBM

READ YOUR OWN BOOKS READ-A-THON--WRAP UP POST

I SO love read-a-thons, but every time I participate in one, I only manage to completely finish one book.  Well, let me take that back, I think I may have finished two before! Anyway, I'm hoping someday that I will be able to read as others do, like Lydia at The Lost Entwife, who read a phenomenal 9 BOOKS for this one! Maybe my attention span is not up to par and/or I'm an incredibly slow reader.  I know on Friday, my sons were less than cooperative and very distracting.  Then, I was out and about on Saturday for around 5 hours...shopping at a library sale and lunching with Mom.  I keep saying I'm going to get a hotel room  where I'll have no distractions! I just may treat myself since the next Dewey's 24 hour Read-a-Thon is close to my birthday.  A hotel room as a treat for my birthday...yay! It sounds totally dreamy to me. =O)

Anyway, here is what I read this weekend:

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen--completed (367 pages)
Under the Dome by Stephen King--read a total of 333 pages out of 1074 pages

Total pages read:  700
Total hours spent reading:  I have no earthly idea...LOL!

I really enjoyed doing the read-a-thon, despite the less than stellar performance on my part.  Any excuse to sit and read for long periods of time is always fun for me.  I'd like to thank Monica at Bibliophilic Book Blog for hosting such an awesome event.  I hope she will do it again some time soon!

Stay tuned next week for the From Dusk Till Dawn Read-A-Thon, August 25 at 8pm through August 29 at 8am! Jenn should be posting more information about it soon.  Click on the badge to go to her blog.  I can't wait! =O)

READ YOUR OWN BOOKS READ-A-THON--UPDATE #2

Okay, so I finished Sense and Sensibility! What a wonderful book...I so enjoyd it! That means 367 pages complete plus the 211 pages I read of Under the Dome.  Now I'm going to pick up Under the Dome again and try to read all night (I was somewhat over-indulgent in my napping on Sunday).  I will either read a couple hundred more pages of Under the Dome and pick up something else (perhaps The Lady and the Unicorn by Tracy Chevalier) or I will plod on with the 1074 page Stephen King tome.  It is a great read so far.  The official end time for the read-a-thon is 9:00 am Monday, but since I started at 12 noon on Friday, I will read until 12 noon on Monday.

Stay tuned for my wrap up post later today!

READ YOUR OWN BOOKS READ-A-THON--UPDATE #1

Well, I didn't get much reading done during the day on Friday, but my momentum picked up late Friday and now in the early morning hours of Saturday.  I have been reading Under the Dome by Stephen King and have made it to page 211 of 1074 pages.  I think I'm going to take a break from it for a time and start reading Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen.  It's the large print version so a little easier on the eyes at this late (early) hour.  Don't know how long I'll last before falling asleep!

I'm going to step out for a few hours today to go to my monthly library sale and out to lunch with my mom.  She will be driving so I will take my book with me and read when I can.  I will have another update for you when I return tomorrow afternoon.

Officially, I have been reading for 17.5 hours (I started at 12 noon CT on Friday).  Of course, there were TONS of interruptions by my sons, fixing supper, eating supper, shower, etc. so I guess 211 pages isn't too shabby...considering!

Read Your Own Books Read-A-Thon

Of course, I'm starting late! The boys had their first day of school yesterday so they slept in late recuperating.  So anytime they oversleep, I do too because they're not bugging me to get up...LOL! Anyway, I'm starting now (at 12:00 noon CT).

My list is kind of long and I know I probably will not get to them all, but I want to have a variety available:

Under the Dome--Stephen King (I'm starting off with this, but I probably will not finish it...it's a monster!)
Sense & Sensibiltiy--Jane Austen
The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane--Katherine Howe
The Lady and the Unicorn--Tracy Chevalier
The Other Queen--Philippa Gregory
Scarlet Women--J.D. Christilian
Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister--Gregory Maguire
The Stone Virgin--Barry Unsworth
Paint It Black--Janet Fitch
People of the Book--Geraldine Brooks
Echoes from the Macabre--Daphne Du Maurier (stories...possibly to break up the monotony)

I'll be checking in with people I follow who are participating and perhaps making new friends along the way!

And here we go...

READ YOUR OWN BOOKS READ-A-THON

Okay...proceed with the rolling of the eyes! Yes, I'm doing another read-a-thon.  This one is being hosted by Monica at The Bibliophilic Book Blog.  The beauty of this read-a-thon is that you must read books you have bought yourself or that you already own.  This is going to do wonders for my reading challenges, as most of the books I'm reading for them are books I already own! And, no offense to anyone, but this will be a nice break from reading review books.  When the read-a-thon is over, I will return to my review books fully refreshed!

I'm not foreseeing any obstacles in the way of my reading other than Saturday I will go out for a few hours with my Mom to our monthly library sale and out to eat.  Maybe I can get Mom to participate too! If you would like to join in on the fun, just click the button above or in my left sidebar to go sign up.

The read-a-thon starts at 9am Friday, August 13th and will go until 9am Monday, August 16th.

I will be posting my list later on in the week...stay tuned!

48 Hour Read-a-Thon--Wrap Up Post

Well, I didn't read as much as I had planned, but I did finish Virgin and the Crab by Robert Parry.  Wow, what a book! I loved it...which is why I didn't give up on it, but it was a pretty difficult read.  Look for my review in the next couple of days.  After finishing the Robert Parry book, I started Venetia Kelly's Traveling Show by Frank Delaney.  I got to page 100.  I'm really enjoying this one and I can tell it's going to be a fast read for me.

So...I'm pleased with myself.  Although I didn't read as much as I had planned, I do feel a certain sense of accomplishment.  I would like to thank Wallace at Unputdownables again for hosting such an awesome read-a-thon.

Next up is the Read Your Own Books Read-a-Thon hosted by Monica at The Bibliophilic Book Blog from August 13-16.  Will you be joining me on this one?  I hope so!
